Make other questions visible when a single question is visible

So if I have the following (a simplified version of the logic I am trying to implement):

Question1 - pick a number between 1 and 10

Question2 - visible if answer to Question1 is more than 5

Question 3 - visible if question 2 is visible

Question 4 - visible if question 2 is hidden

…how does this work?

The following is an example of the JSON for the equivalent of Question 2 in the above simplified example:

A var1 calculated field contains a certain condition. The question2 and question3 questions are made visible when the var1 variable evaluates to true; otherwise, question4 appears.

This will result in a lot of duplicative work I think because I would need to replicate all the different sets of logic which make various expressions visible. I have about 25 different outcomes (expressions that become visible or not) - 10 of which should lead to one question becoming visible and the other 15 lead to the other question being visible.

Ideally I’d use a function that checks whether a hidden question has become visible. So, “visibleIf": "{question2} = visible"… or something like that. Is there no function for that? From checking forums and GPT I have seen suggestions of using empty and notempty, but this does not work (I think because the expressions never have any value per se; they are just hidden or visible).

If I understand the below example correctly, this essentially swaps out the conditional visibility logic I already have and places it in the “var1” function. What I would need is for question 3 and 4 to check if question 2 was visible (not whether var1 was true).

Or (alternatively), it would work if var1 were be to be “true” if question 2 is visible (rather than question 1 being >5).

Hi Jack,
Thank you for the update.

You can group desired questions within a panel or page and manage visibility of a group of questions by setting the visibleIf expression for a panel. Please let me know if this grouping option works for you.

Thanks Jane - I’ve done this elsewhere but that doesn’t work for my use case in this instance.

I did more research and understand surveyjs does not support “isVisible” functions (only visibleIf).

Thank you for the update.

If you define the Question.visibleIf property, you're expected to specify the expression which evaluates to true or false and defines the question visibility. If you wish to make a question visible if another question is visible, you can register a custom function. Within this function, locate a target question using the SurveyModel.getQuestionByName(questionName) function and check whether the target question's visible property returns true. Use this custom function within another question's visibleIf expression.

Please could you show me what the code would look like to check whether question55 is visible?

Do I then just insert this in the visibleif box for the question I want to make visible based on question55’s visibility?

To check whether a question is visible, you would require to implement a custom JS function, register it within a SurveyJS function factory and specify another question's visibleIf property using the custom function. Consider the following demo: View CodeSandbox.

I think this is all a bit beyond me. I’m building a beta so maybe this is something I will look to get fixed by a professional / someone who knows what they are doing. For now I have just done a bodge job fix by including an “acknowledge” radio button when the hidden questions become visible, so that I have something to attach further conditionality.
